Notes - Mary Jane Stanley was born in Meigs County (then Rhea) in about 1828 and married Sanford Askins on 29 Jan 1850 in Meigs County. Sanford and Mary Jane are found in the court minutes for Meigs Co. and Rhea Co. TN. under marriages for 1850. The minutes show them listed as follows. Sannford S. Askins and Mary Jane Thusley with a note just below this saying Mary j Stanley to Sanford Askins q.v (q.v. means the brides name was double checked and found that her name is Stanley not Thusley.)
They had two children, Jehu born July 1853 in Tennessee and Martha, born 1856 in Arkansas. An Askins researcher, Reba Ford knew Jehu when she was a child but neither she nor any other family member ever knew or could find out what happened to Mary Jane. Reba was told by another family member that she died after giving birth to Martha but no evidence has been found to support that statement. On June 12, 1859 Sanford married a woman by the name of Ellender King in Independence Arkansas. They would have 5 children together. Sanford died in 1906 and Ellender in 1921. Both are buried in Lone Pine Cemetery, Clarksville, Johnson, Arkansas as are some of their children and other descendants.
